Rachel’s Pick:
Gallant by V. E. Schwab

Olivia is a young mute girl who lives in Merilance, an all-girl orphanage. She’s a clever but mischievous girl who often gets into trouble. Between the matrons and other girls hating her and the ghouls haunting the orphanage walls, Olivia feels stuck and yearns for more. Her deceased mother leaves a mystery that begins to unravel when she receives a letter from her long-lost uncle. Her uncle tells her to come home, but on arrival, she finds he has been dead for over a year. The world-building, plotline, and characters are wonderfully written, so it’s easy to immerse yourself into the story entirely. It’s definitely hard to put down once you start reading.
