In this incredible, illustrated retelling of the Cruella story, we get insight into her childhood. A childhood that was full of emotional neglect and abuse, all from her mother. Growing up, her mother was highly materialistic. This caused Cruella to believe that the only way people could show love was by giving and getting gifts. Because of the conditions of her childhood, Cruella grew up into an unstable and emotionally immature adult. She would have many heartbreaks and disasters throughout her life that led to where we see her in the 101 Dalmations movie (1961). This book was sad, thoughtful, and it gives you a deeper understanding of her motives and who she was as a person.
