Roxy by Neal Shusterman and Jarrod Shusterman

Roxy is a novel that follows the lives of Ivy and Isaac, polar opposite siblings attending high school. Ivy’s failing school, loves to go to parties with her friends and boyfriend, Craig, and would rather do anything than homework, while Isaac does well in school with little effort and is dedicated to soccer.

However, when Isaac’s grandmother offers him a “roxy”, a painkiller prescribed for herself, his entire world is flipped as he becomes dependent on it. Roxy personifies various types of drugs, teaching the reader about what different ones do in terms of affecting the brain and behavior while leading through a story that will keep you hooked. I highly recommend this!
