Rachel’s Pick: Samantha (Snow) White is a sweet girl with two loving parents and a normal life until a sickness takes away her mother. Years later, her father becomes entranced by a beautiful woman and decides to remarry. The woman becomes Samantha’s stepmother and sends her off to boarding school. Samantha later returns after her father’s death, but something seems strange about her new stepmother. This book retells the classic story of Snow White, complete with a narcissistic stepmother, seven small helpers, and plenty of poison. However, it is retold with a unique spin. The use of watercolors give a noir feel and the colors enhance scenes. There isn’t a lot of text, but the story still feels complete.
