Oct. 7 tree planting ceremony at Deming Library honors Summer Reading achievement

For Summer Reading 2023, Whatcom County Library System (WCLS) patrons read for the trees. Summer Reading activities added up to trees that will be planted in Whatcom County in partnership with Whatcom Million Trees Project (WMTP). Thanks to local readers and to funding from the Whatcom County Library Foundation, WCLS and WMTP will plant 500 trees in Whatcom County.

To kick off the planting, the library system is hosting a 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7 ceremony at the Deming Library. The event will include music, poetry, and brief comments from WCLS Executive Director Christine Perkins and WMTP Executive Director Michael Feerer. The highlight will be the planting of a tree on library grounds. After the 30-minute event, guests will gather for refreshments at the library. The program is presented in partnership with the Whatcom County Library Foundation and Friends of the Deming Library. We hope to see you there. Reservations are not required. Join us as we celebrate trees, reading and community.
