Upcoming Movies Based on Books Print

Buzzfeed recently published a list of 16 books to read before the movies they are based on hit theaters this year.  Wild by Cheryl Strayed is at the top of OUR list, as Cheryl will be visiting Whatcom County in February as our 2014 Whatcom READS! author.  Teen titles are well-represented by the likes of Vampire Academy, Divergent, and The Fault in Our Stars.  Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep star in the teen dystopian classic and Newbery Medal winner The Giver.  Author Gillian Flynn grabs two spots on the list with Gone Girl (starring Ben Affleck) and Dark Places, an earlier novel about a brutal family murder.  World War II is solidly in the public interest with the long-awaited film version of Unbroken (released in December), and The Monuments Men, a true story about a group of men who risked their lives to save pieces of art that the Nazis planned to destroy (stars the incredible grouping of George Clooney, Matt Damon, John Goodman, and Bill Murray!).  Other titles being made into films are:
