ABOUT US
Friends of Island Library built the ADA accessible Lummi Island library and an auxiliary building for our annual book sale and storage, which we maintain along with the grounds of the library. We fund the upkeep and improvements for this with an annual silent auction and a summer used book sale. Our success is due to the ongoing generosity of our community through volunteerism and financial contributions.

NEWS AND EVENTS
Annual Used Book Sale– FOIL is requesting books for their annual used book sale. Preferably, drop your books off during the days and hours that the library is open. On alternate days, please set them in front of the double door entry to the Noble Barn.
We need clean, gently used books. FOIL is asking that you please find another home for out of date computer books, text books, dictionaries, travel books older than 3 yrs, VHS tapes and old encyclopedias. These have all exceeded their “use by” date, even at a used book sale.
The sale will open Saturday, Jun 28th, 10:00 AM-7:00 PM. Book sale is open daily through Labor Day.
Funds raised at the book sale are used to maintain the building and grounds and to sponsor events and programs at Island Library.
In the Library Display Cabinet during April

Magdalena’s poetry/art books (most of them modeled after the simplicity of the 17th Century chapbook) are held in Special Collections at the University of Washington in Seattle and in book art collections.
Weird, Wonderful and Worrisome Objects in Washington State’s Libraries with Harriet Baskas from Humanities Washington. In this talk, explore a wide range of hidden objects found in the back rooms of museums in our state and around the country. Examples include a Spokane institution that holds Bing Crosby’s toupées and a museum in Lynden that’s home to a 150-year-old pickle. When possible, we will have local museum curators on hand to answer questions, participate in our discussions, and unbox a few hidden treasures.
Harriet Baskas is the author of nine books, including 111 Places in Seattle That You Must Not Miss and Hidden Treasures: What Museums Can’t or Won’t Show You. She writes about airports, museums, travel, and a variety of other topics for outlets such as NBC News, The Points Guy, and her own site,
