WCLS updates requirements in response to CDC announcement

In response to COVID public health guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Gov. Jay Inslee’s office, as of Friday, May 14, 2021, masks are no longer required at Whatcom County Library System (WCLS) branches for visitors who have been fully vaccinated. Masks continue to be required for anyone over the age of 2 who is not fully vaccinated. Patrons are asked to follow the honor system regarding full vaccination status.  WCLS staff will not be requiring proof of vaccination. On May 13, the CDC and, subsequently, Gov. Inslee announced that masks are no longer required indoors or outdoors for people who have been fully vaccinated.

WCLS staff will continue to monitor changes to public health guidance and will update library policies accordingly. For now, to adjust to new masking guidelines, library staff will continue to wear masks while at work, even if they are fully vaccinated. Other COVID-19 public health safety measures currently remain in place at county libraries, such as plexiglass barriers, social distancing and occupancy limits.
