SUMMER READING 2021
CHART YOUR PATH!
Reading takes us on boundless journeys. This summer, we invite you to chart your own reading path.
You choose how you’ll remember your summer of reading. By the end of the season, you’ll have a colorful page to display as a reminder or to share with others.
Summer Reading cards for children, teens and adults feature blank stepping stones that you can fill in however you like.
Write the title of a book or draw a picture of it. Craft a poem or color your feelings. Get creative – anything goes.
DOWNLOAD YOUR SUMMER READING CARD
This summer, make county libraries your destination. With 10 branches located throughout Whatcom County (plus bookmobile stops!), visiting each branch—and exploring local attractions along the way—is a great way to explore your own backyard.
Experience reading and the great outdoors at the same time by taking a StoryWalk® at any Whatcom County Library System building. A different book will be featured at every location.
Pages from the book are installed along an outdoor path. As you stroll, you’ll be directed to the next page in the story. Follow “trail signs” that mark the way.
Some trails will lead you through library gardens; others may take you to places unknown. Stroll down a path reading the story as you go. You’ll find a different story at each library. Visit them all.
Pick up a Scavenger Hunt list from the blue mailbox at your library or the bookmobile! There will be a new card each week so you can have fun all summer long!
YOUTH BOOK DAY – SATURDAY, JULY 31, 2021
In celebration of summer reading, we invite kids and teens to visit their local WCLS library on Saturday, July 31, to choose a free paperback book to keep. From board books to teen tomes, we have a huge variety, thanks to the generous support of the Whatcom County Library Foundation and Friends of the Library groups.
One day only; get yours while supplies last!
Saturday, July 31, during library hours
Extend your Whatcom County library tour by visiting community attractions. The staff at our 10 branch libraries have great local knowledge to share. Here are their suggestions for things to see and do in their communities. Most stops are also a great place to read a book!
Learn more about WCLS libraries on our new Podcast: WCLS of Whatcom County presents: Library Stories!
This biweekly show will feature conversations and interviews all about your public libraries and the people who populate them. Tune in to laugh a little and learn a little about the communities, the staff, the events, the backrooms, the happenings, and much more.
It’s a half hour of happiness delivered to your earbuds every two weeks!
