Sumas Library News

On Nov. 16, 2021, the Nooksack River flooded, devastating communities in Whatcom County. Now, nearly 15 months after closing due to the flood, the Sumas Community Center, which includes the Sumas Public Library and Senior Center, will celebrate its reopening with a 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15 ribbon cutting. See the invitation on this page for all the details.

Once open, the library’s hours will be 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays. Events are also returning to the Sumas Library. Visit wcls.org/events to search for upcoming programs.

Thank you to everyone who supported the renovations and to those who donated to the Sumas Library Recovery Fund. We can’t wait to welcome you back to your library!

Sumas Library Recovery Fund

The floods of November 2021 impacted communities across Whatcom County. While most of our libraries did not experience major losses, the Sumas Library suffered significant damage to equipment, furniture, shelving and materials. Insurance will cover some of the repair and replacement costs, but we know there will be a gap.

Generous community members have asked how they can help. You can lend a hand by donating to the Sumas Library Recovery Fund. All funds donated through this form will be used for Sumas Library services, materials and equipment. For now, the library building is closed, and we are are working with Sumas city staff to consider alternative library services. Thank you for your support.
