Working under the supervision of library staff, volunteers enhance library programs and services in a variety of areas:
Adult Program Idea Generator: Engage the community by creating library events on topics that appeal to community members Citizenship Volunteer: Assist adults with study materials to prepare for the U.S. Citizenship exam Display Case Curator: Use artistic and creative skills to help the library create and maintain attractive displays English as a Second Language (ESL) Talk Time Leaders: Assist adults learning English in improving their conversational skills in informal small group settings eReader Assistant: Help patrons understand how to use their eReader devices Job Shop Coach: Help individuals looking for jobs to use library technology and resources to develop the tools and information needed for their job search Landscape Gardener/Grounds Volunteer: Keep library grounds neat, orderly and aesthetically pleasing Literacy Child Care Volunteer: Lead children’s activities while parents are attending Talk Time or computer classes Programs Host: Help the library with programs and events Publicity Distribution Specialist: Distribute flyers and posters for upcoming library events throughout the community Publicity Photographer: Capture the story of the importance of the library by taking photographs during library programs and events and creating “stock” photos to aid in publicity and community awareness Resume Helper: Help patrons create effective resumes using library computers and resources School-Age Program Volunteer: share your talents, knowledge, or special interests in hour-long after-school or Saturday programs at any of our branch libraries Scrapbook Organizer: Help library staff create and organize scrapbooks of library events and programs Storytime Volunteer: Lead a half-hour program of stories and activities that introduce preschoolers and toddlers to the delight of the library Technology Coach: Help library users learn to use or increase their skills on the computer and Internet Videographer: Create dynamic videos showing library events or “behind the scenes” movies about WCLS Other Opportunities: If you have an idea about a way to share your skills, contact your local library manager! |
