|Foundation Awards First Villani Grant|
The Whatcom County Library Foundation is pleased to announce the first grant recipient of the Ramona Villani Memorial Fund for Teen Services.
To kick off the school year, the Whatcom County Library System’s Teen Services Department will launch a nine-month program that will help teens interact in a positive way with the staff at their local library branch.
Each month of the school year, there will be a game, survey, drawing or program that will attract teens to their library. Participants in the activities will be entered into a drawing for a free book that relates to a teen movie that is coming out that month. For example, in November they could win Catching Fire, as the movie will be released November 22nd.
The beauty of this type of “passive” programming is that it can be done at every branch, any time. It also enables branch staff to engage with teens in a fun way.
Innovation is a hallmark quality of the Teen Services Department, and this program honors Mrs. Villani’s love of teens and reading. The Foundation board felt that this project was the perfect fit!
To date, more than $1,800 has been contributed to the Ramona Villani Memorial Fund. We are grateful for these gifts, and want to build the fund even further, so that lack of funding does not limit the vision of our Teen Services staff.
The Foundation’s goal is to raise $5,000 by the end of the year. We invite YOU to help us reach this mark. As an incentive, every gift will be matched 1:1 by an anonymous donor!
