A Forest of Words coverThis year, the teen poets were invited to a workshop with the award winning Whatcom County poet James Bertolino. Sixteen teen poets participated, writing and reading their work. Mr. Bertolino read a few of the poems out the anthology and discussed them. Many teens had questions about how to get published and whether poets can make any money. Mr. Bertolino encouraged teens to "get their poems out there" by submitting them to publications and entering poetry contests. He also praised the Whatcom County Library System for providing such a wonderful opportunity for the young poets of Whatcom County.
