Put together by a number of government and private organizations, this site offers news, information on biodiversity issues, and invasive species, a species search engine to the internet, biological information by geographic area and list of links for teachers and students.
  Animal Diversity Web
Sponsored in part by the University of Michigan Museum of Zoology, this site offers descriptions of lower through higher orders.
  Electronic Zoo
Large animal site with information on pets and wildlife.
  BioSurf
Online biology "textbook" format with links to sites in a chapter format. Lower through higher animals covered.
  Enature.com
An extensive collection of field guides for different species. Currently owned by National Wildlife Federation.

  Entomology Index of Internet Resources
Provides insect images, an extensive list of recommended sites for individual insects and for k-12 education, and information on beekeeping and biological control issues.
  Insect Hotlist
From the Franklin Institute, a list of insect sites including topics such as insects as food, keeping insects as pets, insect images and movies, and information on individual species.

Fish

Extensive list of articles on wild and aquarium fish.

Brief information on uses and biology of 250 species of fish

Birds

  Electronic Resources on Ornithology
Links to birding resources on topics such as bird song, birding spots, and bird images.
  Audubon Society Bird and Wildlife Information Center
Provides some links to information on injured birds, bird identification, state birds, and selected species information under "More frequently asked questions FAQ".

Endangered Species

  Endangered Species Program (U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service)
Includes the federal list of endangered species, information on the species themselves, news, legal information, "landowner tools", and a "kid’s corner".
  World Conservation Monitoring Center (http://www.unep-wcmc.org/)
Includes "red lists" of endangered animals and plants, and information on the state of biodiversity in selected locations around the world.
  World Wildlife Fund Endangered Species
Includes news, species list, and notes on selected, individual species.

  American Zoo and Aquarium Association
Offers a list of individual zoo links and addresses, news, and professional items such as conference schedules, and career information.
  ZooWeb
International zoos are listed here, along with zoo games, live camera sites, and evaluation/review information.

Care of Wild Orphans

Advice on birds, reptiles and mammals.
  Wildlife Rescue, Help, Don’t Hurt
General information on rescuing orphaned or injured animals with links to other resources.
  Wildlife Rehabilitation Directory
Includes lists of professional organizations, wildlife experts, laws, safety considerations, care of mammals and birds, wildlife repellant recipes, and a list of internet links on wildlife.

Humane Society of the United States
Offers a broad variety of information on topics including pet adoption, choosing a boarding kennel, coping with pet allergies, information on flea and tick products, and basic pet care for common pets such as dogs and guinea pigs.

  American Veterinary Medicine Association presents Care for Pets
Provides basic information on pet health, coping with the loss of a pet, advice on buying pets (including horses), safety issues and advice on how to choose a vet.

Searchable online version of the current print edition
  Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care
Includes a link to the online text of Guide to Care and Use of Laboratory Animals.

Anatomy

  Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Medical Anatomy
Part of the About.com guide to the internet, this site provides links to information on the anatomy of birds, cats, dogs and iguanas.
  See also image searching engines on our "Image searching, clip art and art prints" link. (Diagrams of less common animals, insects, etc can sometimes be found using an image search engine). At the central reference library, we also have a print copy of Animal Anatomy on File which includes diagrams of lower order animals, fish, birds, reptiles, and various mammals .
