How can I avoid overdues?

  • When you check out materials, ask staff for a printout of all the materials that you have checked out.
  • On the Library catalog main menu, select Your patron record. Check the list of what you have out, and when it is due.
  • You can renew your own materials from your patron record, if no other person has placed a hold on the title. Only one renewal is permitted.
  • Call any library and request telephone renewal, if you need more time.
  • Mark your calendar with the due date as a reminder.
  • Keep your library materials in a special place at home so that they are easier to find.
  • Books can be dropped off at any of our libraries, bookmobile stops in Acme, South Bay and Sudden Valley, at the Bellingham Public Library or at Haggen's grocery stores on Meridian, in Barkley Village, and in Sehome.

What help is in the library for visually impaired person?

  • The Ferndale Library has a magnifier to enlarge print (enlarges about 6 times).
  • Spoken recordings, books on tape, are available at every library. A special index to them is available on our DYNIX catalog.
  • Large-type books are available at every library. This material has a special index on DYNIX, so you can find large-type books by title, author, or subject.
  • Library staff can help you sign up for the services of the Washington Talking Book and Braille Library, to receive a free steady supply of materials from this state agency. Dyslexic persons are qualified for this Washington state service. Contact your local library. See Branches & Bookmobile for locations and telephone numbers.
  • WCLS Outreach Services can provide additional help for people who find it difficult to use a library.
