Each October since 2007, The Pickford Film Center in downtown Bellingham hosts a month-long celebration of the best documentaries currently available for theatrical exhibition. Contrary to the idea that documentaries are primarily dry and scholarly educational tools, many big hits and top-grossing films are from the documentary genre; just think of Bowling for Columbine, Rivers & Tides, March of the Penguins, or The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill. Check out Pickford Film Center Doctober page for a schedule of this month's showings! Too busy? The library owns many of the films that were screened at Doctober 2011 (see list here) - put on your jammies and make some popcorn!
