Too busy for a book group? |
As wonderful as it is to talk about books with other people, it can become just one more appointment on a too-busy schedule. Here's an alternative - check out a new WCLS book kit! Ask your friends, family, and coworkers if they will all read the same book with you and then talk about it as you read together.
Kits include 10 copies of the same book, a reading guide, and sometimes a DVD or audio supplement. The six-week loan period gives you plenty of time to distribute, read, discuss, collect and return the books. Reserve yours today!

Local First and Frugal Living |
An interesting reading list called Local First, compiled by IndieBound (an association of independent booksellers), was recently brought to my attention. It includes great reads about making and keeping local economies vibrant. Another list for your consumer soul is a collection of recent titles on living frugally - even while we support our local economy!

Voices of Veterans |
In November 1919, President Wilson proclaimed November 11 as the first commemoration of Armistice Day. Now known as Veteran's Day, we honor living veterans who have served in the military during wartime or peacetime. In remembrance, we've compiled a booklist that shares some of their stories.

National Bookstore Day |
The weather tomorrow is supposed to be rainy - perfect for spending the day browsing books and sipping coffee. Tomorrow is also the first annual National Bookstore Day, a day dedicated to celebrating the culture of books and and bookstores. So head to the bookstore nearest you (or maybe your library, if no bookstore is convenient) - to rub elbows with other readers and bury your nose in a book. Village Books in Fairhaven will offer 10% off storewide, plus book and gift card giveaways throughout the day.
