The annually presented Hugo Awards honor the best science fiction or fantasy works of the previous year and are recognized as one of the most prestigious science fiction awards bestowed.  Named after Hugo Gernsback, founder of the early science fiction magazine Amazing Stories, the awards were first given in 1953 and have been given every year since 1955.  (This mag had some amazing covers - check them out here!)  These are this year's nominees for best novel - winners will be announced at the 70th World Science Fiction Convention being held in Chicago at the end of August.  Click on any of the book covers to reserve in the library catalog.  Or view the list of this year's nominees in all categories ... or do some retrospective reading of some of the nominees from previous years
