Just finished that new bestseller? Consider donating it to your library! Whatcom County Library System accepts gifts of books and other materials in excellent condition to add to our collection. Friends of the Library groups at all branch libraries also accept books to sell at book sales to raise funds for the library. Please call ahead if you have more than a few books to donate. Where will the book end up? Requests to place gift items in a particular library facility must be approved by selection staff. Donated items will be available to all WCLS users in the same manner as all other library materials. Requests for separate housing, restricted use, or other special considerations must be approved by the Library Director, who will consider space limitations and community needs, as well as Library System benefits. Unless otherwise agreed upon between the donor and the Library Director, the items may be replaced or disposed of according to the best judgment of the library’s staff. Receipts The library cannot assign a dollar value to gift materials for tax purposes. Library staff can provide a receipt for the number of items donated, or the number of boxes or bags of items. If a donor provides a specific list of items, the library will sign a statement acknowledging receipt. For more information contact your local Branch Library. |
